About Mississippi

On December 10, 1817 the Mississippi Territory became the 20th state accepted into the United States of America. The state runs north from the Gulf of Mexico toward the Tennessee border. It passes through several historic sites and some of the most beautiful and pristine marshland in the U.S. This area is called the Mississippi Delta. However, most visitors that travel to Mississippi go to enjoy the beautiful white sand beaches along the Gulf Coast.

Mississippi Gulf Coast The Gulf Coast has many attractions to offer visitors. There are gambling establishments throughout the coastal region. These establishments offer all of the amenities of the casinos found in Las Vegas or Atlantic City including deluxe hotel accommodations. Live shows featuring well-known entertainers or flashy showgirls are performed nightly. Fabulous restaurants and buffets are filled with flavorful temptations. Not to mention the ever present possibility that you could go home a millionaire.

The beautiful coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico offer a variety of activities. The more than 20-miles of white sand beaches present several sunbathing and sandcastle building options. Sailing, jet-skiing and body surfing are always a fun way to spend a day at the beach. Chartered deep-sea fishing excursions are available along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Whether you're fishing for mackerel, snapper or grouper you can't pass up this opportunity to "Catch the Big One!" The Mississippi Gulf Coast also has several museums, festivals and historic sites to fill a traveler's day. A trip to the Gulf Islands National Seashore should not be missed when traveling through this region of Mississippi. This chain of small islands will capture the child within each of us; fish, hike, watch the wildlife or explore a historic fort. It can all be found at this national treasure located along the Gulf Coast. However, anyone who thinks that a day at the beach is all that Mississippi has to offer will be missing a chance to see an amazing area that is steeped with tradition.

Mississippi Delta

The Mississippi Delta can conger up thoughts of elegant plantations filled with beautiful women in large bell shirts or dirty hillbillies running moonshine and strumming banjos. And at one time or other both were true. Today the Delta region of the Mississippi is a picturesque area filled with history and tradition. From the music of the Delta to the folk art that can still be found in the area, coming to the Delta is like taking a step back in time. Anyone planning a trip to the state of Mississippi should make time to explore this amazing region of Mississippi.
